Get the Most Out of Physical Therapy

December 27, 2021

Achieving success in any undertaking always involves good preparation before you even start it. The same holds for your first visit to a physical therapist (PT). It’s the best way to, as that saying goes, start on the right foot. You want all of the time and hard work that you put into it to pay off big-time.

At the office of The Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Center, we have a well-established reputation for providing high-quality care and compassionate service. Experienced in treating patients of all ages, we are an excellent one-stop solution for all of your physical therapy needs. Whether it’s recovery from a knee replacement or help regaining motion after a stroke, rest assured that we provide the expert service you need and expect. New patients are always welcome to our state-of-the-art facility, your resource for the best in modern physical therapy.

To get the best results from physical therapy, take these suggestions

Get to your appointments on time— or, even better, a bit early. Reap the most from each session, and you don’t want to disrupt the schedules of your PT’s subsequent clients. Have a discussion with your PT about your treatment goals—what you want to accomplish, in how much time and if they’re realistic.

Don’t skip an appointment, as it will break your momentum and delay your recovery. On the financial front, not attending a session without sufficient advance notice may result in a cancellation fee. Before you start treatment, look into the facility’s cancellation policy.

Follow your PT’s directives. You may have your ideas about how to best “fix yourself,” but remember that he (or she) is the expert, not you. Not heeding his instructions—avoid certain movements, modify a physical activity, use a walker, brace, cane, etc.—can make your situation worse and hamper your recovery.

While still undergoing physical therapy, do your home exercises as instructed by your PT, and don’t deviate from them.

After you’ve completed your physical therapy series, retain your gains by following through with your home exercise plan.

You get out of your physical therapy regime what you put into it.

When you’re searching for a physical therapy practice that’s dedicated to providing the topmost standard of personalized care, look no further than The Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Center. We offer an extensive menu of high-quality treatments. For more information about our many services, please contact us today.
