PT Can Help Ease the Discomfort of Spinal Stenosis

April 25, 2023

Spring is traditionally a time of rebirth, with warmer temperatures and more daylight presenting more opportunities to get outdoors. That’s a tip-off that it's time to end our winter hibernation and start, or restart, an exercise or fitness routine. The physical therapy staff at The Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Center wants our new or returning clients to take advantage of our expertise when planning the most appropriate exercises and training techniques for their particular goals. At our state-of-the-art facility, we accommodate people of all ages and fitness levels. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to getting into shape; that’s why we customize each client’s fitness program.

For those who need a subtle push to get off the couch and through the front door, we’ve prepared some useful suggestions to consider before lacing up.

  • When starting a new exercise or training routine, it’s recommended to consult with your doctor or healthcare professional to determine the right place to start for your age and physical capabilities. Guidelines determined by the National Institutes of Health recommend at least 150 minutes of physical activity per week, but your threshold may be different.
  • Avoid any exercise programs claiming quick results. Set realistic, achievable goals and be prepared to start slowly and build up from there.
  • A well-balanced regimen includes exercises that support flexibility and mobility, not just strength and aerobic fitness.
  • Be consistent. Keep the activity from becoming a chore by incorporating it into your daily routine.
  • Join a “support group,” like a group of friends with similar goals, or visit our fully equipped facility for a comprehensive evaluation and make use of our experienced staff to help guide you through a customized program.

If you’re setting goals for a healthier lifestyle this spring, congratulations! Our physical therapist at The Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Center is ready to help you achieve your goals. Speak to your doctor or healthcare provider and then contact us to schedule a visit.
