Do You Have A Problem With Alcohol?

July 27, 2023

Drinking alcohol plays a significant role in many people’s lives. Drinkers’ consumption can be labeled as light, moderate and severe. Unfortunately, some users deny to others or themselves about their reliance on it. The effects of alcohol addiction are ominous and extensive. Seeing a therapist can help you break your cycle of addiction.

The Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Center collaborates with patients to focus on personal growth. We will identify and discuss the strengths you already have and then apply new knowledge and self-awareness to achieve greater insight into your goals and objectives. You’ll gain better control over your ability to balance your emotions and achieve your desired outcomes in your relationships and life.

Do any of these traits apply to you?

You crave alcohol—sometimes so intensely that the longing won’t stop until it’s satiated. You can imagine your life without alcohol.

You sometimes drink more or for longer than you planned. It’s a warning sign that you can’t control yourself.

You must drink more and more to feel the buzz. As time goes on, your brain becomes more tolerant of alcohol and less responsive to its effects.

Most of your day revolves around booze. It’s your priority; you shove aside other activities—even work duties—in favor of bending an elbow way more than a few times.

It’s damaged—sometimes irrevocably—your relationships with your family and friends, yet you still can’t stop drinking.

You ignore its injurious effects on your body. You know that alcohol wreaks significant havoc on your kidneys, liver, heart, pancreas, brain and nutrition, yet it doesn’t faze you.

You lack judgment and take hazardous risks while drunk. Dangerous activities include swimming, driving, sex with strangers, unsafe sex, and disorderly or offensive behavior.

You have withdrawal symptoms. Constant drinking significantly alters brain chemistry. When the effects of alcohol wear off, you experience insomnia, the shakes (body tremors), nausea, depression, anxiety, irritability, rowdiness and hostility. Heavy drinkers can die detoxing if not under close, professional medical supervision.

Alcoholism is a disease. The Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Center can help you. Our reputation for excellence is based on providing experienced and compassionate care designed to give our patients the best treatment results. Please don’t hesitate to call us for an appointment.
